Saskatchewan is one of the three prairies of Canada, sandwiched between the Canadian provinces of Alberta to the west, Manitoba to the east, the Northwest Territories to the north, and two US states, Montana and North Dakota, to the south. Although both of Canada's official languages are spoken in Saskatchewan, the Canadian Encyclopedia indicates that Francophones comprise approximately 2% of Saskatchewan's population.
According to Statistics Canada, Saskatchewan is known as the breadbasket of Canada. The Government of Saskatchewan reports that Saskatchewan supplies more than a third of the world's total durum wheat exports and is the world's largest exporter of lentils and dry peas. The province currently supplies one-third of the world's potash and one-fifth of the world's uranium. In addition to being a world leader in agriculture, Saskatchewan is the fifth-largest oil producer in North America.
